The makers of 'Squid Game Season 2' have released a new teaser and announced its premiere date. The show, releasing on December 26 on Netflix, will feature the return of Emmy-award winner Lee Jung-jae.
After a long wait, the makers of 'Squid Game 2' have revealed the premiere date for the highly anticipated Korean drama. The new season will debut on Netflix on December 26, right after Christmas. Season two of 'Squid Game' will arrive over three years after the first season, which became a global sensation in 2021.
The creators have also confirmed that Season 3 will be the final chapter of the series. In a teaser released on social media, a fresh group of contestants is seen taking part in a deadly game, with red and black-clad workers watching as some participants fall to their deaths on the running track. The trailer ends with the head of the soldiers asking, "It’s been three years. Do you want to play again?"
The upcoming season of 'Squid Game' will continue to follow Seong Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, as he investigates those responsible for the deadly games. As the sole survivor from the first season, Seong Gi-hun returned in the finale, and his involvement was confirmed in a teaser earlier this year.
Returning cast members for Season 2 include Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. Joining them are new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
Commenting on the new season, Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director, writer, and executive producer of 'Squid Game,' said, “It’s been nearly three years since Season 1 received such an incredible global response, and many unexpected events have unfolded since then. I am thrilled to announce the release date for Season 2 and the news that Season 3 will be the final season.”
“On the first day of shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of 'Squid Game'.’ It felt almost surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to return to 'Squid Game' after three years as well. Seong Gi-hun, who sought revenge at the end of Season 1, is back and rejoining the game. Will he achieve his revenge? Front Man seems to be an even tougher adversary this time. The intense conflict between their worlds will carry through to the series finale in Season 3, which will be coming to you next year,” he added.
Both Lee Jung-jae and Hwang Dong-hyuk won Emmys for their work on the first season of 'Squid Game.' Hwang continues as an executive producer, along with Kim Ji-yeon.
